Catching up after the holidays

Like many in the U.S. this weekend was full of family, fireworks, and relaxation so I’m a bit behind.  Luckily were still in Pre-Challenge and the new 30min format makes catching up easy.

Day 1 – Sign up for UStream and subscribe to The Challenge TV Ustream channel – Already done so moving on.

Day 2 – Sign up for Twitter and follow some people.  Already done and then some.

Day 3 – Install Chrome and some extensions.  Been using Chrome as my default browser for some time with lots of extensions.  I do have some thoughts on the extensions they chose though.  Short version, SEO Quake and RSS Subscription Extension are the only 2 worth installing (unless we do some international marketing – then there are 2 more to install).

Chromed Bird – Basically a Twitter timeline in your browser.  Worse than worthless.  Once you’ve followed more than 5 people your main timeline is impossible to follow.  Get something like Tweetdeck or Hootsuite and use lists to break your followers into manageable groups.

Kuber Pagerank Checker – Pagerank has never been very meaningful, so I have never been a fan of Toolbars and addons that display it.  You can get the info from a more comprehensive addon and not seeing it all the time helps you relax about it.

SEO Quake – I like this addon and have been using it myself for a long time.  Get it.

Ultimate Chrome Flag – I have never needed Geo Location for a website, but if you do then get it.  I have been doing SEO professionally for a long time and I can’t recall any experiments showing a connection between server location and rankings for non-local searches.  I could be wrong though.  I’m skipping it for now.

Google Global – This one is kind of cool, it allows you to search Google from different countries. I have used it a few times in Firefox but not enough to warrent adding it now.  It is worth knowing about, but I would wait to install it until you have a specific need.

RSS Subscription Extension – Why is this not a built in feature of Chrome?

Thats it for catching up, and I actually didn’t have to install anything or do anything.  Guess I’m ahead of the class.
